2015 Home Run Derby

Apparently, MLB reformed the way the derby actually works probably in efforts to save time (needless to say it ended the time as it usually does). Each player would have to hit as many home runs as they could in the four minutes of time given, and if they scored at least five they could earn an extra thirty seconds. The players had to compete against someone of the opposing league in bracket form. Breaks could also be given during the time. This change could very well be because of Yoenis Cespedes. He hit 17 runs in the first round back in 2014, given 10 strikeouts.

FIRST ROUND
Anthony Rizzo (8 runs)    vs.    Josh Donaldson (9 runs)
Prince Fielder (13 runs)   vs.    Todd Frazier (14 runs)
Manny Machado (12 runs) vs. Joc Pederson (13 runs)
Kris Bryant (9 runs)        vs.    Albert Pujols    (10 runs)

An interesting side note, but every player that went second during this round, won.

SECOND ROUND
Josh Donaldson (9 runs)  vs.  Todd Frazier (10 runs)
Joc Pederson    (12 runs) vs.  Albert Pujols (11 runs)

THIRD ROUND
Joc Pederson (14 runs)   vs.   Todd Frazier (15 runs)

It was really strange watching this home run derby. For example with Prince Fielder, I thought originally that he was going to win the round because of how many runs he hit. I even thought that Todd Frazier had no chance in scoring more runs than Fielder, but I guess the crowds and home field advantage (which seems a little unfair, but oh well) made him do well. I would like to count out against the Reds fans for poor etiquette though, booing against Joc Pederson every time he scored a home run. I mean this is a derby. It's meant to bring leagues together and celebrate baseball. Sometimes your favorite player doesn't always win. Take a chill pill. I have to give credit for Pederson. He made it quite far (almost becoming the youngest player to win) and he did hit quite a few home runs in a row and that takes a lot of effort.

Adam Jones didn't shy away from the camera during this home run derby. During Machado's break Jones was seen giving him chips and salsa (Prince Fielder's son also gave Fielder cotton candy during his break). The salsa is actually his own, named Machado's Salsa and it's available in mild and medium in most Baltimore supermarkets. Let's hope Jones gave him mild salsa, because Manny needed a cool down after hitting that many home runs. Adam Jones also had the honor of handing Todd Frazier the WWE belt, which every derby winner gets along with a trophy.

Well, I lied a little. It looks like Manny didn't actually eat any of the salsa during his break, but I'm sure he ate some afterwards. I mean who doesn't eat salsa that's named after themselves?

2015 All-Star Game is tonight! Be sure to watch your TV to see Manny Machado on 3rd, Adam Jones in Left, and hopefully Britton and O'Day will relief pitch and not make fools of themselves!
