Orioles Lead Majors With Most Nominations for Gold Glove, Six
Orioles have swept the majors with a grand-total of six players nominated for the Gold Glove Award. Nominated are- Chris Davis, Adam Jones, Nick Markakis, Matt Wieters, Manny Machado, and J.J Hardy.
Many others have been renominated- Adam Jones (who if you recall won one last year), as well as J.J Hardy and Matt Wieters who also have previously been awarded.
All of these players were nominated by the team and now lead as finalists. It's not guaranteed that all the Orioles will receive the awards, but a good half of them deserve it. How it works is three players all from different teams or the same (in one case R.A Dickey AND Mark Buehrle both from the Blue Jays) get awarded for one position.
Bets-
I would have to place my bets on Manny Machado, Adam Jones,Chris Davis, Matt Wieters and J.J Hardy. I really hate to say this, but Markakis wasn't as stellar this year, yes when it came to fielding which is what all this award is about but batting was another story. If you recall Markakis got moved down a place in the batting line-up. I think that his streak of no-plays really affected his fielding. I am not trying to say he won't get the award at all, but don't be surprised he doesn't. I didn't really think there was a spark this year as much as last's.
